Workshop Supervisor
A bit about us
Film-Ocean is a specialist subsea ROV services company, part of the international STAPEM Group, with a strong reputation for technical excellence and safe, high-quality project delivery. Based at our headquarters in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, we're looking for an experienced Workshop Supervisor to take ownership of our onshore ROV operations and lead a skilled technical team.
This is a senior hands-on role for someone who knows ROV systems inside out, takes pride in running a tight, well-organised workshop, and has the leadership skills to get the best out of the people around them.
What you'll be doing
You'll have overall responsibility for the onshore maintenance, operation, and repair of our ROV systems and ancillary equipment, working closely with the Operations department and reporting to the Asset Manager. Day to day, this includes:
- Managing onshore ROV maintenance, repair, and operational continuity
- Ensuring the Planned Maintenance manual and Technical Log are kept current
- Overseeing spares and materials requisitioning to maintain minimum stock levels
- Checking goods received against requisitions and ensuring paperwork is returned to Operations
- Ensuring items dispatched from offshore — whether for repair, warranty, or demobilisation — are accompanied by the correct documentation
- Participating in risk assessments and developing procedures to accommodate ROV limitations, including contingency and emergency planning
- Arranging or delivering on-the-job training for personnel unfamiliar with specific ROV equipment
- Appraising personnel performance and identifying training needs, conducting competency assessments in line with the IMCA competency scheme
- Reviewing system manuals, maintenance log books, and certification for validity and relevance
- Representing Film-Ocean at onshore project meetings as required
- Reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses to the QHSE representative and Operations department
Health, safety and environment
At Film-Ocean, HSEQ is embedded in everything we do. As Workshop Supervisor, you'll be expected to lead by example — maintaining a safe, well-kept working environment, following our HSEQ processes, and promoting a proactive safety culture within your team.
What we're looking for
- An engineering qualification to HNC level or equivalent, or a time-served technician with a City & Guilds certificate or equivalent
- IMCA competence criteria met, including satisfactory completion of the MTCS assessment as a Supervisor and at least one year in a Senior Pilot Technician role
- Extensive technical and operational knowledge of ROV systems
- Strong understanding of safety and quality standards in an offshore environment
- Proven ability to lead a team and communicate clearly under pressure
- Minimum 500 hours piloting time with five years of relevant offshore experience
- Current offshore survival and medical certification, and a valid passport (preferred)
- General environmental and safety training awareness
What we offer
- Private medical insurance
- Life assurance for permanent staff
- Workplace pension scheme
- Free EV charging at our Ellon HQ
- Competitive salary, dependent on experience
- The opportunity to work within a skilled, supportive team on interesting and varied projects
